A note from the District Governor

Wow, what a busy start to the Rotary year!

Since our District changeover in Mittagong, I’ve visited many of the district’s clubs including Bega, Merimbula, Pambula, Batemans Bay, Bungendore, Boorowa, Forbes, Bathurst Daybreak, and Griffith Avanti. Some of these visits have been for the official District Governor visit and some for changeover, but on every occasion I have been welcomed. Thank you to all clubs I’ve visited so far.

I look forward to meeting with many more Rotarians and Rotaractors as the year unfolds. It is always incredible to see the innovation and commitment to service and community across our district.

Protecting the Environment is now one of Rotary’s chief causes. This is a cause close to my heart and one that will be profiled at our District Conference in October. This cause interlocks with many of our other causes, including Promoting Peace, Preventing Disease, Saving Mothers and Children, and Growing Local Economies.

The challenges in each of these areas are made harder if the environment is in a poor state. I encourage you to think about what your clubs are doing to support this cause, and share some of your ideas and projects in our District Facebook Group.

Finally, my District Conference Committee is working hard to bring you a fabulous event in Wagga Wagga from October 21-23. The conference is free (excluding meals), and will feature fantastic speakers and opportunities for networking. It will focus on sustainability and the future of Rotary. I look forward to seeing you there.

District Governor Geraldine Rurenga
