Recognition of Service through Rotary

The District Governor changeover dinner in Young, NSW, on Saturday, 26th June was the perfect occasion to recognise many Rotarians from across the District. Once again, COVID-19 had a play in proceedings as the wearing of masks became mandatory from 6pm, just as the evening was kicking off. This didn't deter those attending and it was a great night for everyone.

Area 5 - End Trachoma Project

Rotary E-Club of Brindabella -

Members of the E-Club of Brindabella have put together 25 hygiene bags for a small school, Newcastle Waters in the Northern Territory. This school is located 788 kms north of Alice Springs and 714 kms south of Darwin in the Barkley region.

To complete this project the Rotary E-Club partnered with the Moss Vale Public School – Class 2C.

A local firm, Pack & Send from Mittagong , also came on board to assist the club in this project, transporting the boxes of hygiene bags and water bottles to the Northern Territory at cost.

RC of Canberra Weston Creek

Vocational and Community Service Awards.

At a recent awards evening a Rotary Community Service awards was given to the Weston Creek Walk-in Centre for their work during the early months of the COVID-19 Health Emergency in the ACT.

Kirsty Cummin responded by describing what the Rotary award meant to the Walk-in Centre’s staff, many of whom had benefited from the club's Coffee Shout project. The Coffee Shout was a way of demonstrating appreciation for the work frontline healthcare staff were doing to protect the Canberra community. The club funded coffee vouchers at three local cafes and contributed the balance of the cost to help keep the healthcare workers energy and morale up. A secondary benefit was that it helped keep the cafes going during the quiet period of the COVID-19 stay-at-home period, and helped allay concerns that the healthcare workers would spread the virus.

Area 4 - Goulburn Rotary Park

Fifty Years in the Making

In 1971 the Rotary Club of Goulburn began an affiliation with the park area at Marsden Weir in Goulburn. In the Rotary Club year, 1971-72, President Bill Thwaite and members of the Club embarked on a project to have a continuous link between the park and the Club. The project included the planting and maintaining of trees, erection of fencing, picnic tables, a double-sided barbeque and bins. Fifty years later in conjunction with the Goulburn/Mulwaree Council, a design for a new sign was selected, manufactured and is now in position proudly displaying Goulburn Rotary Park,
