Meet the Area Governors

Area 2 Governor - Ross Craven JP (Rev) -  My name is Ross Craven and I am an Anglican Priest at Grenfell in south western NSW. In my previous life I was a school teachers with the NSW Department of Education for 40 years as a primary school teacher, a secondary maths teacher (for a couple of years), and a Maths Consultant. My last permanent teaching role was in a small school at Cassilis – midway between Dubbo and Newcastle – where I was Principal. During my time there I joined the Merriwa Rotary Club (2007). During my almost 5 years in that club I had the privilege of being Treasurer for a year, and then President for a year. Our club was mostly men and had a real focus on fellowship and reaching out into our community.

After retiring from permanent teaching I moved to Balranald in 2012 (part-time teaching), and, having become an Anglican Priest, took care of Swan Hill Anglican Church. In 2013 I became the Parish Priest at Elmore (Vic) fulltime until mid 2016. I was unable to link with a Rotary Club during my time in Balranald or Elmore. On moving to Grenfell I joined the Grenfell Rotary Club. The following year I took on the Club Presidency (for 2 years), then last year (2019-20) I was Club Secretary. Late last year I was nominated, offered and accepted the role of Area Governor (Area 2) for 2020-22.

Area 3 Governor - Martin Brown  I live in Tumbarumba and am responsible for Area 3 - this includes the clubs in Wagga Wagga, Temora, Junee, Coolaman, Tumut, Batlow and Tumbarumba, along with the eClub Serving Humanity. My wife, Fran, son David and his wife and three children live with me. I am involved in a number of community organisations within town. One of my journeys I am proud of is riding my motorbike with others around District 9710 for the End Polio Now campaign.

I became involved in the local Rotary Club in 2012 (after my wife joined the club). I have served as President and Treasurer and proposed our Bushfire Relief Fund (which has received over $100,000 in donations from around the world.) I look forward to representing our District Governor and bringing clubs from both old districts together in activities for our new district.

Area 6 Governor - Bruce Whiley  I was born and raised in Cowra and it was there that I was first introduced to Rotary through my father who was a great Rotarian and also through my mother's involvement in inner wheel and Rotary. Following school I spent 9 years in the Air Force maintaining transport aircraft, then moved to Orange with our young family and started farming and growing grapes. I supplemented this income by returning to aircraft maintenance and worked for several maintenance organisations in the central west, eventually establishing my own business at Orange.

One of my customers Laurie Chapman invited me to join Rotary. Having seen my fathers commitment and enjoyment of  Rotary I was keen to join and joined the Rotary Club of Orange North which is a wonderful club.  I have always looked forward to the weekly meetings and projects the club undertook.  Following a year as president in 2018-19 we sold the family farm and business and moved to Jervis Bay and I became a member of  the Rotary Club of Nowra.    Having taken on the role of Area Governor for Area 6, I was looking forward to travelling to the various clubs in the area but presently covid is not allowing this. Hopefully this will soon change and things will return to some kind of  normal. The above image is of Bruce is from https://rotarynowra.org.au/home
