We have now passed the halfway mark in the first year of the new District. I really want to thank all those Rotarians who have chipped in to make the transition from District 9700 and 9710 to 9705 such a smooth one.

There have been a few hiccups along the way. However, in the spirit of Rotary I have observed people pulling up their sleeves and pitching in. At the District Board Meeting in Young on the last weekend of January I was able to acknowledge the amazing leadership of PDG Steve Hill and PDG George Weston.

They were not on their own. The last couple of District Governors from both Districts John Glassford and John McKenzie along with Margaret Hassall and Peter Ford also played a key role in the transition. There are so many people who were on the transition team or on the committees that considered each of the issues they are just too numerous to name. Add to that the dozens and dozens of Rotarians that have taken on roles that ensure a successful district. A special thanks to all of them.

A real effort needs to be made to revitalise Rotary in our District over the next few years. We have the next few months to consider how to make our clubs more welcoming and more diverse and to invite others to join us in the work we do.

Looking ahead, now is the time to seek a District Governor to follow Geraldine Rurenga and the District is now seeking nominations for the District Governor for 2023-2024.
