From Henty Rotary Club

A chance remark from a nine year old boy has led to Henty Rotary Club undertaking its biggest project ever.

 

The lad asked Rotarian Graham Booth one day, "Why hasn’t Henty got a skate park like other towns?” Graham broached the matter at a Rotary meeting and the upshot was that the club decided to investigate the possibility of building one. A committee was formed from Rotarians and interested local citizens.

 

The local Council agreed to set aside an area of land in the town’s Memorial Park so the club kicked the fund raising off with a donation of $1,000, to which a further $10,000 was later added. Pledges of a further $35,000 were given by a number of various local organisations and Club Treasurer Noelene Bedggood set about applying for a $150,000 grant from the N.S.W. ClubGRANTS programme.

 

Fundraising continued with raffles, etc. and in March this year the committee was delighted to receive word that its application had been approved.

 

Local young people and members of the committee met with the contractor and plans have been drawn up. With a budget of approximately $200,000, work is expected to proceed almost immediately with a projected opening date of late November.
