Peace Conference Speeches Published
THE messages of last September's Rotary Peace Communities International Conference are set to live on through a new book put together by conference Secretary Ray King. Holding the new publication is District Governor Greg Brown.
Dr King has compiled the speeches made by the conference's speakers which converged on Wagga from around the world for the book, titled Peace in Action.
"We had such a unique group of international speakers and the conference went so successfully that it seemed to me such a pity that all the speakers would go away and that would be the end of it," he said.
"I thought I should get hold of the speakers and have them write up their talks and publish it. I got in touch with all of them and the result is the book."
The book focuses on the resolution of conflict and peace and conflict studies and is dedicated to Rotary's Peace Fellowship Scheme, which celebrated its l0th anniversary last year.
The scheme, sees university scholarships given to its recipients to train them as peace workers and all profits from the book will go to supporting the program.
Dr King believed the book has a broad appeal, with a wide range of groups able to get Something out of it. "It's important reading for people who are financing programs in overseas countries.
"Particularly it's important for them to see how the conflict resolution can be managed, so that other programs like water conservation and so on can be managed
"Practitioners who are working for peace overseas should read it as well." In addition to speeches from last year's conference, the book features a specially commissioned article from the director of New Zealand's National Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies, Kevin Clements, and an endorsement from Rotary International World President SakqjiTanaka.
