Being in Nepal at the time of the earthquake has provided Orange Daybreak Rotarian and recent winner of the RI Service Above Self Award, Mary Brell, with further motivation to provide constructive assistance to the  villagers in the Maidi region.

Over the last 4 years through a Global Grant and RAWCS project Mary and her team have achieved real change within the education and health areas of focus.

Immediate assistance has been provided through cash donations and a structured building campaign is planned for after the monsoon season (Sept) where an team including volunteer builders from Orange will viit the Maidi area.

Through consultation with the village elders committee it was established that the two birthing centres in the region should be prioritised to ensure that birthing mothers were not caught in the extremes of the coming winter.

Through the RAWCS project (22/2012-13) donations made will go towards acquiring materials, mainly tin and cement, for the visiting building team of about 5 volunteers from D9700. If you are interested in supporting this project go to RAWCS Projects/Nepal/22/2012-13 and follow the ‘Donate Here’ prompts.
