In this Quick News I wanted to share with you my assessment of our District 2016-17 performance against our targets for this Rotary year. In summary, I believe we scored very well on three key Strategies and targets. In these results the % is an assessment of how well we did against the set targets, and they are:
  • Develop leaders capable of serving Rotary at the Club, District and International levels  80%
  • Improve the organisational and operational performance of the District 90%
  • Apply Rotary’s five Avenues of Service - Club, Vocational, Community, International and Youth Programs 85%
But on the other three key Strategies we either scrapped over or under-performed.
  • Support Clubs to increase and sustain the District membership base 30%
  • Focus and increase educational, vocational and humanitarian service through The Rotary Foundation 35%
  • Use the activities of local Rotarians to increase awareness of Rotary 50%

Develop leaders capable of serving Rotary at the Club, District and International levels      80%
  • Mandates for each role recognise the need to renew participants (Completed)
  • Conduct an interactive District learning and development events that are well structured to provide time for networking and fun including AGs training and PETS (Feb 2017) & informative Club Board Training (April) 2017 (Completed, and well attended)
  • Offer financial support to three emerging leaders to attend recognised Zone leadership development activities (Offered, but no takers)
Improve the organisational and operational performance of the District       90%
  • Circulate a monthly newsletter that informs on Rotary Programs and Achievements and meets the needs of Clubs and members (Completed)
  • Use PETS and AGs to inform the updating of the District Strategic Plan, to be reviewed and adopted by members before June 30 (Completed)
  • Present the District Strategic Plan at PETS and encourage its use in Club planning (Completed)
  • Encourage regular AG contact with Clubs; and Quarterly Group meetings of Presidents hosted by AGs (Completed)
  • Invite AGs to contribute to meetings of the District Board (Achieved)
  • Conduct at least 4 meetings of the District Board (Achieved)
  • Board budget is prepared in time for Board review and presentation to members in February, for April adoption (Achieved)
  • Mandates for each role are updated by February, and incoming office bearers receive their written appointment letter (Completed)
  • Finalise the D9700 Youth Protection Policy (Achieved)
  • Support the Youth Protection Officer to attend training (Achieved)
Support Clubs to increase and sustain the District membership base           30%
  • Develop & implement a multi-year New Rotarian Action Plan to work with Clubs that seek assistance (Plan and Program completed; Some clubs are struggling to survive
Focus and increase educational, vocational and humanitarian service through The Rotary Foundation           35%
  • Support Clubs that nominate that they want District assistance in developing an action plan to improve their skills at community needs assessment and project planning (No clubs took up this offer)
  • Support a range of successful District projects with a focus on educational, vocational or humanitarian service (Achieved)
  • Support District learning and support for the Foundation at AGs Training, PETS, Assembly and other Foundation Forums (Annual giving’ by clubs and Rotarians, very low. End Polio a success)
  • 1 new Bequest Society member per Group (Not achieved)
  • 1 new Major Donor per year (Not Achieved)
Apply Rotary’s five Avenues of Service - Club, Vocational, Community, International and Youth Programs      85%
  • Support Clubs that nominate that they want District assistance in developing an action plan to improve their skills at community needs assessment (No clubs took up this offer)
  • Support the Science & Engineering Challenge through Newcastle University (Achieved)
  • Support RAWCS District & Eastern Region meetings & activities (Achieved)
  • Present the District 9700 Vocational Excellence Award(s) at 2017 District Conference (Achieved)
Use the activities of local Rotarians to increase awareness of Rotary      50%
  • Support Clubs that nominate that they want District assistance in developing an action plan to improve their Public Image in their local community (Facebook seminar was popular)
  • Other public image assistance offered with some take-up (Not great take-up)
  • Maintain a vibrant website and assist Clubs to use multi-media to project Rotary’s contributions to the community (Website stories and activities were many and varied. Facebook was active)
  • Develop and present an enticing District Conference (DisCon17 got an excellent report from the RI President’s representative, and while 80% of clubs were represented, the number of conference attendees was much less than it could have been, 214 in total out of a total possible 1060 Rotarians)
